Denise Pyles is a pastoral musician and composer who has been sharing her musical
gifts since 1979. Her piece "Dismissal Amen" from her Creation of Love album has recently been published by World Library Publications.
Creation of Love
is her third professional recording, joining Weaver God and a collaborative
CD for women's prayer and ritual sponsored by IPJC of Seattle. She has
also been commissioned to write music to promote assembly singing for various
religious communities, including the Religious of the Sacred Heart (US
Province) and the Catholic Educator's Conference in British Columbia, Canada.
A skilled acoustical
guitarist, Denise is expanding her repertoire to include the study
of classical guitar. Whether singing, writing, playing or conducting music,
she believes in "full, conscious and active participation" in liturgy and
private prayer. Her never-ending enthusiasm for liturgical and community
singing are best expressed in her trademark phrases: "It is okay to sing
from the neck down," and "Sing what you pray, pray what you sing."
Denise's devotion
to a spiritual life goes beyond music. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky,
she now lives in Seattle and works as a Pastoral Assistant for
Liturgy at St. Jude Parish in Redmond, Washington, where she is also the
director of the Contemporary Gospel Choir. In her spare time, she hikes
the mountains of the Northwest, goes snowshoeing, enjoys photography, and
plays golf. Like everything else she does, Denise has a passion and
energy for wholehearted singing as well as integrating liturgy and justice
in daily life.
