Betsey Beckman
is a freelance liturgical dancer, choreographer, movement therapist, author
and storyteller whose home base is Seattle. Renowned
for her passion and expertise in liturgical dance, you may know Betsey
from her earlier years of "fooling around" as founding member of the Fountain
Square Fools, Portable Theatre Proclaiming Good News from Cincinnati, Ohio.
She is now a solo
artist featured at ministry conferences nationwide, including repeated
appearances at National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) conventions,
LA Religious Education Congresses, and Big Island (Hawai'i) Liturgical
Arts Conferences to name a few. Her many dance/dramas tell the stories
of Mary Magdalene, the Woman at the Well, Miriam, Mary, and other women
of the Bible. Her stories of the latter two are told on her first video
release The Dancing Word: Miriam and Mary.
Betsey delights
in bringing Scripture to life and in leading others in liberating the body
and healing the soul. She has a Masters in Ministry, and in addition to
her audio-cassettes on movement and meditation, she is co-author of A Retreat
with Our Lady, Dominic and Ignatius: The Body at Prayer, published by St.
Anthony Messenger Press. Betsey, a parishioner at St. Patrick Parish in
Seattle, lives with her husband Charlie and nine-year-old son Chaz in
Lynnwood, Washington.
